Board to consider the application of John Drury and the Mauch Chunk Museum for a zoning permit to use the second floor of the building at 41 W. Broadway, Jim Thorpe, PA as a "reception and social hall" or in the alternative for a variance for use as a social hall, and "for parking off street and off street loading".



Borough Council Member(s) had directed Zoning Officer Gene Mulligan, to file a complaint (Zoning Violation) against Mr Drury concerning the use of the Mauch Chunk Museum.

Mr Drury had been operating the Museum over 10 years with no complaints and under the same Zoning.

 
 

 

Conclusion

  •  11/22/2011 
  • After 2 hours of testimony the Zoning Board requested an Executive Session. When the board returned they had decided that no vote was needed and stated that they felt Mr Drury was using the building as specified and there was no violation, therefore no vote was taken. The Zoning Board felt the complaint filed by Borough Council Members was without merritt

    Notice is given that the Jim Thorpe Zoning Hearing Board met on November 22, 2010 at the Borough offices, Jim Thorpe, to consider the application of John Drury and the Mauch Chunk Museum for a zoning permit to use the second floor of the building at 41 W. Broadway, Jim Thorpe, PA as a "reception and social hall" or in the alternative for a variance for use as a social hall, and "for parking off street and off street loading". The Board failed to file a decision within 45 days of the date of the hearing as required by the Pa. Municipalities Planning Code, Title 53 P.S. Section 10908. Pursuant to law, by failing to render a decision within 45 days, the decision of the Zoning Hearing Board was deemed to be in favor of the applicant. This Notice is provided pursuant to Title 53 P.S. Section 10908(9).

    • 10/25/07  The Hoffmans wanted to sub-divide their two acre  lot into two one acre lots The site had originally contained two one acre lots. The Hoffmans had combined them when they purchased the second lot.  The Planning Commission had recommended that the reverse sub-division be allowed.

    • 10/25/07  Mr Bennett who lives in Oakland, NJ owns a property at 321 South Avenue. He would like to rent the property out on a weekly or monthly basis to tourist. The Zoning Board granted the change of use and special exception on the condition that Mr Bennett not sub-divide the property or rent it out to more than one family at a time.

    Wonderful biking and hiking trail from downtown Jim thorpe. Pick up the trail at the top of Hill Rd behind the Opera House. Follow it for 3.5 miles to the lake. Coast all the way back on the 4% grade. Outside picnic areas at the Lake.
